Some bags become famous because of their design. Others because of who wears them. Very occasionally, a single iconic moment is enough to permanently engrave a bag in fashion history.
The Fendi Baguette is perhaps the most famous example of this.
When the bag was launched by Fendi in the late 1990s, the concept was simple yet innovative: a small, compact bag that you carry casually under your arm: just like a French baguette, from which the name “Baguette” originates. Playful, feminine, and different from the large bags that were popular at the time.
But the real breakthrough came thanks to the series Sex and the City.
In a now-famous scene, Carrie Bradshaw is robbed on the street. When the mugger demands her bag, she indignantly corrects him with the words: “It’s not a bag, it’s a Baguette.”
Since then, the Baguette was not just a bag, but a symbol of identity, style, and attitude. It showed how fashion can be more than just practical. In the years that followed, the Baguette became one of the first true It-bags, loved by celebrities and fashion lovers worldwide. Vintage models are in high demand again, precisely because they carry that specific sense of time.
What sets the Baguette apart is that it is not just about design, but about meaning. It is a bag with a story, and that is exactly what gives it its enduring appeal.
